How to Fight Against Bad Breath
How to fight against bad breath? There are several ways to fight against bad breath, but if you are tired of quick fixes and you want to ban foul your breath once and for all, take these instructions to heart.
1. Thoroughly clean your mouth regularly. Two main sources of bad breath is bacteria and decaying food particles. There are hundreds of nooks and crannies in the mouth area where these bad agents can lodge. Brushing is not enough.
- Clean your tongue. Your language, unfortunately, is like a shaggy carpet where all sorts of smelly things can hide. When you brush your teeth (what should be done at least twice a day) use your toothbrush, the edge of a spoon or a tongue-scraper to “scrape” your language.
- If you have a sensitive gag reflex (feeling sick when you insert an object in your throat), you may not like this. You should clean your tongue entirely, including the part near your tonsils.
- Use dental floss. Do this as often as you brush your teeth so that it becomes a habit. At first, your gums may bleed when you remove food particles that are “glued” to your teeth and gums for a certain time. But take a moment to smell the teeth once you’ve switched on the teeth if you have the courage. You will see (or rather feel) the origin of bad breath.
2. Keep your mouth moist. A dry mouth is a mouth with strong odors. This is why your breath is always worse in the morning and your mouth produces less saliva as you sleep. Saliva is the enemy of bad breath, not only because it is physically disposed bacteria and food particles from below, but it is also an antiseptic and it produces enzymes which kill bacteria.
- Chewing gum stimulates saliva production (in addition to disguise the smell with a kind of smell). The mints do not encourage the production of saliva.
- Drink water. That will not necessarily increase your production of saliva, but it will wash the mouth and is good for your body.
- A dry mouth can be caused by certain drugs and certain medical conditions. Ask your doctor to change medications, or treat the underlying condition.
3. Choose your chewing gum carefully. As mentioned in the previous step, the chewing gum helps fight against bad breath because the chewing action will result in a greater production of saliva.Certain chewing gum, however, are better suited against bad breath than others:
- The aroma of cinnamon seem to be particularly effective in reducing the numbers of bacteria in your mouth.
- Look chewing gum with xylitol (sugar substitute). On the one hand, sugar is not good for your mouth. Xylitol is a sugar substitute that works effectively to prevent bacteria from replicating in your mouth.
4. Eat a banana. You probably already know that it is better to avoid foods with strong odors such as onions, garlic, cheese and coffee (or at least brush your teeth thoroughly after their drinks).But did you know that if you are in full low-carb diet you may also have a “ketone breath”?Basically, as your body converts fats instead of carbohydrates for energy, it creates ketones, some of which are released into the mouth. Unfortunately, ketones have a bad odor, and therefore your breath too. If you’re on a diet restricts carbohydrates so strict, or under any system that requires you to burn fat instead of carbohydrates, consider some eat healthy carbs like some apples or bananas.
- This can also happen to people who fast, whether for religious reasons or for reasons of anorexia. If you are anorexic, bad breath is one reason among many others to stop you from starving.
5. Talk to your doctor. If you followed the above steps with care and bad breath persists, you may be affected by a medical problem that must be addressed.Some potential causes:
- The curd. These are pieces of food, mucus and bacteria that calcified appear as white spots on the tonsils. If present, they can be mistaken for a throat infection, although sometimes they are not visible to the naked eye. You will also notice a metallic taste in the mouth, and / or pain when you swallow.
- The diabetic ketoacidosis. If you have diabetes, this can cause your body to burn fat instead of glucose creating a breath ketone as explained in the previous step. This is a serious disease that must be processed as quickly as possible.
